The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has announced the official commencement of the new gold licensing regime, effectively revoking all gold trading licenses previously issued under the former Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

Speaking at a press conference on June 30, 2025, Gyamfi emphasised that all old licenses became invalid after the non-extendable deadline of June 21, 2025.

He warned that any gold trading activities without the new GoldBod license are now considered illegal.

“If you are not licensed by the Ghana Gold Board, you are committing a crime if you buy gold or engage in any form of gold trading. We will no longer continue to respect the licenses issued under the old regime,” he firmly stated.

He stressed that the “illegal regime has come to an end,” adding that PMMC licenses or those issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are no longer recognised under the current legal framework.

However, Gyamfi clarified that the application process for new gold trading licenses remains open to Ghanaians interested in regularising their operations.

“Ignorance of the law is no excuse. For the last time, we are communicating to all stakeholders across the country to do the needful,” he urged.

“We are not saying you cannot apply because the deadline has elapsed. Anyone who wants to trade in gold can apply for a Gold Board license at any time,” he added.

So far, about 240 new licenses have been approved under the current regime.
