The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has launched a new mobile app designed to help verify the quality of electrical cables produced by local companies.

Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Digital Conformity Pilot Project in Accra, the Board Chairman of GSA, Hudu Mogtari, expressed concern over the surge in counterfeit products and the low level of compliance among manufacturers.

To address this growing issue, Mogtari said the app aims to protect consumers from substandard or fake cables that have flooded the market.

“The proliferation of counterfeit products and inconsistent compliance levels continues to pose a serious threat. Today, we draw a line in the sand. Through this pilot project, we are revolutionizing how we certify, track, and authenticate products across Ghana’s markets — starting with electrical cables, a key component of our infrastructure and public safety,” he stated.

The initiative will make it easier for consumers in Ghana to check whether electrical cables are safe and meet quality standards before making a purchase.

Kofi Addo, who represented the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, noted that the project will help foster fair competition within the market and assure consumers of safe and reliable products.
