Renowned Ghanaian legal icon, Tsatsu Tsikata, has cancelled a planned three-day event marking his 50 years in legal practice, following the military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people, including two Ministers of State.

The commemorative programme, which was intended to honour Tsikata’s contributions to law, academia, and public service, was officially called off on Wednesday, August 6, in response to the national tragedy.

In a statement, Tsikata expressed profound sorrow over the incident and said the decision was made out of respect for the lives lost.

“Following the tragic news of a helicopter crash that has sadly taken the lives of two Ministers of State and six others, the three-day event to celebrate fifty years of my legal practice is cancelled. We are overwhelmed with grief, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased”, the statement said.

The fatal crash occurred near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region and has sent shockwaves across the country, prompting a period of national mourning.

Tsikata, a senior partner at Fugar and Company, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most respected legal minds.

The cancelled event was expected to feature tributes and reflections on his five-decades career.
