The Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has announced record-breaking export figures for Ghana's small-scale gold mining sector for the first eight months of 2025.

Ghana's gold exports reached 66.7 tonnes valued at approximately US$6 billion, he said.

According to him, the volume and value of small-scale gold exports from January to August 2025 have already exceeded the total small-scale gold export outturn for the entire year of 2024, which stood at 63 tonnes with a value of about US$4.6 billion.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Mining and Minerals Convention in Accra on September 8, 2025, Gyamfi noted that small-scale exports continue to surpass those of the large-scale sector, which recorded an export value of US$5.6 billion for the same period in 2025.

Gyamfi further emphasised the growing significance and competitiveness of Ghana’s small-scale gold industry which has traditionally been dominated by larger players.

"In line with our objective of supporting gold reserve accumulation by the Bank of Ghana (BoG), GoldBod has initiated the local purchase of 20% of the gold output from seven large-scale mining companies in the country," he asserted.

He also highlighted GoldBod's purchasing and supply capacity in collaboration with the central bank to boost the nation's gold reserves.

"So far, we have locally purchased and supplied nearly 100 kilograms of large-scale gold to the BoG to augment the country’s gold reserves," he added.
