The Ghana Diaspora Summit and Awards Gala 2025 has been scheduled for December 19 and 20, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The Summit is themed “Resetting Ghana: The Diaspora as the 17th Region,” and the gathering is expected to reposition the role of the Ghanaian diaspora, encouraging them to move beyond sending remittances to becoming full partners in national transformation.
The Diasporan Summit will focus on opportunities in skills transfer, innovation, investment, and cultural exchange.
At the launch, the Director of Diaspora Affairs, Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD, noted the importance of a deliberate and structured approach to engaging the diaspora.
He also mentioned that tapping into the expertise and resources of Ghanaians abroad could become a key driver of Ghana’s socio-economic growth.

KOD also explained what participants should expect in December, saying the summit would not only celebrate contributions from the diaspora but also create a platform for collaboration between the diaspora community, government, and the private sector.
KOD further extended an open invitation to stakeholders, urging the business community in particular to seize the opportunities that diaspora engagement presents for Ghana’s transformation.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also addressed the gathering, describing the diaspora as an essential part of the continent.
He reminded the audience that their contributions make them, in his words, “the sixth region of Africa and, as has been said, the 17th region of our republic.”
“We cannot be whole, we cannot be complete if we do not fully recognise their existence and if we do not make sure that they take their rightful place in all we do as a ministry and as a government. It is also important to emphasise that the diaspora summit we seek to organise this year on the 19th and 20th of December 2025 will not only be homecoming and an opportunity to socialise but it will be a golden opportunity to continue the struggle towards justice and that struggle towards justice relates to the vexed issue of reparations,” he continued.
The launch brought together notable personalities from government, the creative industry, and civil society.
Some of the people present were Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bamboo, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority Abeiku Santana, media personality Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Grammy-nominated musician Rocky Dawuni, actor Majid Michel, among others.
