A commercial bus traveling from Accra to Sefwi Asawinso with registration number GE-8264-19 caught fire around 7:50 AM on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

According to a 3news.com report, some passengers observed smoke coming from the back seat of the vehicle and drew the driver’s attention, but he allegedly refused to stop.

The driver, who declined to speak on camera, later explained that a torn fan belt was the cause of the fire.

The Western North Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Philip Kudzo Amagnoh, disclosed that the only functional fire tender dispatched to bring the situation under control also broke down on its way to the scene.

He stressed that the government must urgently provide the Western North Fire Command with adequate logistics to manage such emergencies.

Fortunately, no lives were lost, though passengers’ belongings were destroyed in the blaze.
