Accra, Dec. 31, GNA - Mr Alex Tetteh-Enyo, Minister of Education on Friday said plans were far advanced to relocate O'Reilly Senior High School from Adabraka to Nungua by July next year.

He said the Ministry would discuss with the school authorities for an extension of the December 2010 deadline to vacate the current premises. Mr Tetteh-Enyo announced this during a familiarisation tour of the new site to acquaint himself with the progress of development. He said relocation of the school to Nungua was part of the Ministry'= s efforts to extend education to the area, which had only two Senior High Schools.

Mr Tetteh-Enyo said 24.5 acres of land was given to the school in 1973 but about 60 per cent had been encroached upon.

He said currently there was a six-unit classroom block on the land, which would be used to cater for some of the students, while the site is developed into a day and boarding facility with accommodation for the teaching staff. O'Reilly Senior High School at Adabraka in Accra was to be phased out in August 2010 after 85 years of existence, because owners of the building were demanding the building since Ghana Education Service could not purchas= e it.

The school has 656 students, 52 teachers and 20 non-teaching staff. It was established in 1925 by Reverend O'Reilly, a Sierra Leonean an= d adopted by the Government in 1960 as a public school.
