Denkyiras have been celebrating Odwira even before the creation of Asante, their last odwira was in 2010. The bedridden state of Boa Amponsem III halted the celebration in the early and late 2000s

During World War 2 the British named their Biggest Warship "Ashanti" to celebrate the Bravery of the Asante Kingdom.
