People are supposed to take their Sandals off as sign of respect to the Asantehene who is seen as the greatest.
Yes, and people who go to greet him while he is seated are supposed to wrap their clothes around their waist level. This is to ensure that people coming to greet him don’t have any concealed weapons and that they are not dangerous to the life of the Asantehene. This law is not strictly followed because some who go to greet the Asantehene are in the dressing of other cultures like that of the Northerners, Europeans, the Ga, and the Anlo Ewe among others. I once took my students on a Field Trip to the Manhyia Palace. My college students were in their College uniforms and the Teachers were in European Suits and Political uniforms. When Politicians like the President, the V.P, MPs and Ministers and also National Security Forces and Service Members go to say hello to the Asantehene,. they don’t take their Sandals and Shoes off. before they do so.
Let presenters of people who post articles on Ghanaweb make a little more research so that they can provide what is the truth and plausible.
