Unfortunately all our local languages are not developed, chiefly because we're not innovative. They're not technical and therefore they're not opportunistic languages. English is the language of science and technology, medicine and pharmacy, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology, agriculture and architecture, business and finance, politics and diplomacy, information technology and the internet. Can you boast the same for any of our languages? Commenters here and Dr. Apaak himself so eloquently deliver their virtuoso submissions in English language, which is the language of the internet, and therefore the language of opportunity. We're in a globalized World and if you want to stay competitive you have to do what is done in other developed jurisdictions. Ga, Twi, Ewe, Dagare etc, are limited in terminology and therefore cannot be used as a medium to teach any subject. In any case which local language will the science teacher use in Accra basic schools? Don't take us back to primitive and primordial medieval times. This is archaic. Y'all being sentimental about the imminent extinction of our local languages but there's absolutely nothing we can do. English is the real McCoy because at the end of the day, I'll need it as a prerequisite for entry into JHS SHS or university? Go think about it again!

In Arab countries, they teach in Arabic. In Russia, they teach in Russian,etc. Africa is behind the curve on this amd is also the least developed continent partly because of this.
You cant keep making excuses...it is down to us to develop our local languages to not only express philosophical ideas but also to embed technical know how. It has to start now...Language is not just about communication but also about preserving culture and it's intrinsically linked to liberation and emancipation. For how long are we going to serve at the altar of our colonial masters by teaching exclusively in english, French,etc . It's a ridiculous state to be in and only a colonised mindset will think this is great!

Always ask them which schools their kids attend. If they haven’t shipped them off to the UK, USA, or Canada… they usually have them attending expensive private schools that the average Ghanaian cannot afford.

And those schools all teach in English.
