Watch as female worker sheds tears as fire guts China City Mall in Kumasi

An unidentified female worker at the China City Shopping Mall at Santasi, Kumasi, broke down in tears as she watched an inferno reduce the entire facility to ashes on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

In a video shared on X by EDHUB on Friday, October 31, 2025, the lady is shown profusely shedding tears.

The post accompanying the video stated, "The distraught worker, who said she has been the sole breadwinner of her family since her father’s death, revealed that her salary was due to be paid today, making the tragedy even more painful."

The new China City Mall was completely gutted by fire, destroying goods and properties worth thousands of cedis.

The fire, which started on Thursday, October 30, 2025, spread rapidly through the commercial facility, leaving behind thick clouds of smoke and charred debris.

According to officials from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, though preliminary reports indicate it may have started from the rear section of the building before engulfing the entire mall.

“We received a distress call about the fire and dispatched two fire tenders to the scene immediately. Our men have been working tirelessly to contain the blaze,” a GNFS officer said.

Despite their efforts, firefighters were unable to save the structure, which housed various shops dealing in electronics, groceries, and home accessories.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who were present at the scene, confirmed that no casualties have been recorded.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic.

“It was frightening. Within minutes, the whole place was burning,” a shop attendant said.

Meanwhile, the GNFS has begun investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the level of damage.
