A total of 1,632 Ghanaians have been handed a 10-year visa ban by the United Kingdom.

The ban comes as a result of the affected individuals reportedly using fraudulent means to obtain their visas to the country.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the 1,632 Ghanaians, about 4% of the total who applied for visas in 2024, were reportedly misled by unscrupulous individuals posing as agents, which ultimately resulted in the ban.

“In 2024, 1,632 applicants from Ghana used fraudulent means when applying for UK visit visas,” the report said.

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Christian Rogg, speaking on the issue, highlighted the risks associated with fraudulent actions, stating that “it is not worth it."

“Fraud is never worth the risk,” Dr Christian Rogg, said when the High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Ghana joined forces to launch a one-week public awareness campaign aimed at tackling the growing threat of visa fraud.

A joint statement by the three high commissioners highlighted how many applicants fall victim to fraudulent agents and misinformation, leading to significant losses.

The report added that the initiative was part of a wider global effort led by UK Visas and Immigration, and supported by partner countries including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

“The campaign coincides with International Fraud Awareness Week (November16–22, 2025) and seeks to educate the public on the dangers of visa scams, promote safe application practices, and encourage the use of official government channels,” it said.

The Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Berenice Owen-Jones, said Australia is proud to join its international partners in combating visa fraud.

“The Fighting Visa Fraud campaign sends a clear message, if you are applying for a visa, always use trusted, official sources and beware of anyone promising shortcuts or guaranteed results,” she said.

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat, said Canada remains firmly committed to promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration, adding, “We are taking decisive steps to stop fraudulent practices that put applicants at risk.

The statement said the three countries are committed to protecting genuine applicants and ensuring that visa processes remain transparent, secure, and accessible to all Ghanaians.
