The Institute of Engineers & Technology (IET), Ghana has honoured the Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Ltd., Edmond Kombat Esq., for his exceptional leadership in restoring the country’s premier refinery to productive operation.

The recognition was announced at the Institute’s 29th Annual General Meeting and Induction Ceremony held on November 27, 2025, where Kombat received a special plaque for his “outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication” in reviving a major dormant national asset.

The honour follows an official visit by IET Ghana to TOR in October to assess progress on the refinery’s comprehensive turnaround maintenance programme.

During the visit, the delegation observed that all ongoing works were being executed by Ghanaian engineers, many of whom are members of the Institute.

The IET team expressed strong admiration for the technical competence displayed and commended Kombat for his confidence in local engineering professionals.

Kombat, who attended the AGM as a Guest of Honour, said he was humbled by the unexpected recognition and thanked the Institute for acknowledging his efforts. He reaffirmed TOR’s commitment to empowering Ghanaian technical experts.

In his remarks, he noted that “TOR’s problem over the years has not been about the engineers, but rather a lack of effective leadership.”

He added that “all the human capacity we need to transform Ghana is here in the country," underscoring his confidence in Ghana’s engineering talent and the importance of strong leadership in unlocking national potential.
