Some taxi and commercial vehicle (trotro) drivers in Accra have cautioned the government following Parliament’s recent passage of the Road Traffic Amendment Bill, popularly known as the 'Okada' Legalisation Bill.

While many drivers expressed happiness about the bill, they urged the government to proceed with extra caution as it finalises the process.

According to several drivers who spoke to GhanaWeb TV on December 12, 2025, robbery incidents are often linked to certain motorbike riders, though not all are 'Okada' operators.

They added that the ease with which some riders operate makes it difficult to track those involved in criminal activities.

Some taxi drivers also raised concerns about the high rate of motorbike accidents, noting that many riders lose their lives due to reckless riding and a lack of regulation.

They further appealed to the government to introduce stricter safety and licensing measures to ensure that only trained and qualified riders are allowed to operate commercially.
