So, they keep on to be working until the bones are rotten. If the economic and social conditions are good, who will want to work after Sixty years. Why can’t people retire and enjoy their lives. I have a friend at Koforidua who was a High School teacher. He was forced to retire at the Retirement Age. Unfortunately for him, his wife had died earlier and he had no place of his own to live. Unfortunately for him, none of his two sons who were University Graduates was that much employed to make it in life. A kind neighbor saw his predicament and rented him a single room which he shared with his two sons. His retirement salary cannot cater for him and his two sons. He is a product of UCC so he tried to find a private school to teach. while his two sons struggle daily to find anything legal to do to help their father take care of issues. My friend is from Effiduase Koforidua and the school he had employment with is at ADWESO Estates. The transportation cost from Effiduase to ADWESO is no joke. So, he walks from Effiduase to Koforidua every day and try to get a TRO TRO to ADWESO and walk back. I learned he was suffering but Uncle Sam’s country is not easy. I managed to organize some of our Old Students in diaspora to get a kind of store for him make ends meet. He was in a horrible situation. There was not much he could do because Ghana’s economy does not prepare people for retirement.
Some of my own students have retired and are finding themselves in tough and horrible situations. Even when one is retired, only God knows when his Social Security money will get to him monthly and how much that money will be.
In Uncle Sam’s country, one’s Social Security is very regular and enough to take care of an individual. Yes. and we have the 401 K that is the investment companies make for their workers. I am completely retired and my retirement and 401K can take care of me and and even my family until we all die. Is that situation in Ghana? I cry for my Beloved country and people
In Uncle Sam’s country, nobody is forced into retirement so long as the person can work. I know a Ghanaian in Canada who is about 79 years old and has taught English Language since the early sixties. She has retired and taken her Social Security money but she still goes to work daily and gets paid. When I asked her to be staying at home. Her response was AND DO WHAT? DO YOU WANT ME TO BE BORED AND DIE SOON OF LONELINESS? I AM WORKING UNTIL THE BODY SAYS NO.
It is sad to retire in Ghana at 60 years because one can very well understand poverty and loneliness and even abandonment.
Let the country do something about the Retirement Age in Ghana.

And these areas are where the youth must rather focus in demanding accountability from the politicians. Ironically, why are the youth not bothered about the politicians who doesn't have retirement age at all? Or are politicians not public sector workers? The CRC's proposal to remove the retirement age of 60 from the constitution is to create flexibility in retirement, follow global trends, and benefits from retaining experience individuals to ensure continuity and mentorship.

From 1981-2001, retire at 64.And, then 65 becomes mandatory after that. Very simple and straightforward. President from 37 to 70. That is my take!

Lecturing and teaching are not the same. A trained teacher who has been working for about 35 years wants to enjoy his retirement because he has paid his dues. The youth would be the losers if this proposal is upheld.

Public officers requesting to stay beyond the compulsorily age should not be Left in the hands of the President in power. The past experience shows that recommendation to reassign are not based on science or medical records. But political reasons..

Judges and lecturers after reaching the retirement age of their services are still needed could sign up for limited contracts. I believe strongly, that is is going on is that some professionals deliberately refused to pass on their knowledge to the upcoming young ones ostensibly to remain at post after reaching the retirement age and that cannot go on. Until there is adequate jobs are made available in the country the 60years retirement age should not be touched, thank you.

If you retire with your worth of experience is not better to look elsewhere as consultants? Why do you your relevance lies only in the furtherance of your contract with government. In any case provisions are there to extend contracts, abi? Please do not try to fix that which is not broken.
Again increasing the presidential term is non starter. Can estimate the impact of a decade of tyranny and bad governance? Please, saving cost cannot always be synonymous with improving lives.

I am a typical example. I voluntraly retired from Ghana public service as an engineer at age 55. I got the opportunity to travel to USA at age 60. A state government in USA needed my service as an engineer and I was hired to work for their Department of Transportation until I was 74 when I retired voluntraly in 2016.
This is the irony. I get a meagre SSNIT pension in Ghana for the 30 years i worked for the country which is not sufficient to fuel my private car for one week. I comfortaby live on my social security pension from USA.for the 16 years I worked in USA.
Nobody chased me to retire at age 74 and I was abreast with the necessary technology in the engineering profession.

We must focus on creating jobs and expanding the economy to create opportunities, not robbing Peter to pay Paul by sending older people home to create jobs for younger people!
It is ironic that the key positions in the country are generally held by those beyond 60, whereas we yell for those in small positions to go home at 60.
To me, retirement age should be scrapped from the constitution altogether as ageistic and discriminatory. It is causing early death and extreme boredom.

If the professors, doctors etc want to go pension at 70 ,they can change their own, how is ghana leaders building the living conditions of Ghanaians and you want people to retire at 70? Africans if not poverty and weak thinking why should the a person say he wants somebody to retire so he or she can take his or her place.And let remember blacks our age and body don't much if only the person takes serious care of his health his age can get you confused.

Did he ask you to recommend a third term for anyone?You have by your foolish recommendation denied the people of Ghana competent options for the development of the country for all and not for a few connected ones. Is this democracy or display of envy for the number one gentleman of the land .And to Fifi Kwettey his arrogance with lack of respect for his colleagues would not help him.
