A journalist with the Class Media Group, Samuel Addo, has reported an alleged robbery to the Ghana Police Service, following an incident in which he was reportedly assaulted while covering a fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market in the Central Region.

According to Addo, the incident occurred while he was on duty at the fire scene, where he was allegedly attacked by some personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

He claimed that during the confrontation, a large sum of money went missing from his bag.

“Later, I realised that my bag was open. Upon further check, I discovered that GH¢10,200 of my money was missing. It was originally GH¢20,000,” he said.

Addo further disclosed that his mobile phone, which was allegedly taken during the incident, was later returned through the intervention of the Member of Parliament for the area, Phyllis Naa Koryoo.

However, he said the missing cash has not been recovered.

“By the intervention of the Member of Parliament, that is Phyllis Naa Koryoo, I received the phone, but not the money,” he indicated.

The journalist confirmed that he has officially reported the matter to the Ghana Police Service, where his statement has been taken.

He said the police had also issued him a medical form and directed him to undergo a medical examination as part of ongoing investigations.

“I have also been given a medical form. So, from here, I’m going to the hospital. I have reported to the police. They’ve taken my statement,” Addo stated.

Meanwhile, the management of Class Media Group has called for a thorough police investigation into the incident and has demanded that anyone found culpable be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Ghana National Fire Service, however, has denied allegations that its officers assaulted the journalist.

In a response, the service stated that its personnel only took Addo’s phones during the incident and that the device was subsequently returned, refuting claims of an attack or robbery by its officers.
