The government has inaugurated a National Timber Monitoring Team, a specialized task force mandated to oversee all timber-related activities within the country’s forest reserves.
The announcement was made on Monday, January 12, 2026, via the X page of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

"Today, I officially inaugurated the National Timber Monitoring Team, a specialized task force mandated to oversee all timber-related activities within our national forest reserves," he wrote.
According to Armah-Kofi Buah, the initiative is aimed at preventing encroachment and degradation of forest reserves while ensuring strict compliance with forestry laws and sustainable management principles.
"This critical unit will serve as our frontline defense to eliminate the scourge of illegal logging, prevent the encroachment and degradation of our forest reserves, and ensure strict adherence to all forestry laws and sustainable management principles," the post noted.

He further entreated the team to "Execute their mandate with the utmost diligence and integrity."
