The Government of Ghana, as part of its efforts to enhance operational capacity in defence, emergency response, and transport, has ordered four Airbus helicopters.

Ghana has ordered two H175M multi-role helicopters, one ACH175, and one ACH160. According to Airbus, each aircraft brings specific capabilities tailored to military, emergency, and transport missions.

Following the announcement on Thursday, January 15, 2026, GhanaWeb has compiled detailed profiles of the aircraft to be delivered under the deal, with information sourced from Airbus.

H175M: Multi-Role Military Helicopter

The H175M is derived from Airbus Helicopters’ proven H175 civil rotorcraft and is designed to deliver high performance across a wide range of missions, from sea level to hot-and-high environments.

Airbus describes the H175M as modern and versatile, with the largest cabin in its category. The twin-engine helicopter is suited for troop transport, delivery of special operations forces, utility missions, search and rescue, and casualty or medical evacuation.

With up to 16 troop seats and 12 cubic metres of cabin space, Airbus says the H175M offers the largest interior volume for a helicopter of its size. The aircraft has a range of 600 nautical miles, a radius of action of nearly 300 nautical miles, and an endurance of almost six hours.

The helicopter’s underfloor internal fuel tanks provide over two metric tons of fuel capacity, the highest in its class. Airbus notes that full integration of the tanks into the airframe preserves cabin space, provides excellent ground clearance, and allows operations across all types of terrain without performance loss.

The H175M is equipped with the Helionix avionics system, which delivers optimum situational awareness for demanding missions, including nap-of-the-Earth flight. The system also offers cockpit commonality with other Helionix-equipped Airbus helicopters such as the H135, H145, and H160, reducing pilot training and transition time.

Its four-screen Helionix displays provide an intuitive cockpit layout, while the dual-duplex 4-axis automatic flight control system enhances stability and precision, even in difficult weather conditions. Safety features include automatic recovery in cases of pilot disorientation, vortex ring warning, precision hover capability, and TCAS II for automatic collision avoidance.

ACH175: Long-Range Transport Helicopter

The ACH175 is designed for high performance and long-range operations. Airbus says the helicopter combines fast cruise speeds with an endurance of up to six hours and three minutes, allowing efficient travel over long distances.

With a maximum cruise speed of 151 knots, the ACH175 can carry up to 12 passengers. The helicopter is equipped with the latest Helionix flight deck, featuring intuitive software, a synthetic vision system, and a 4-axis autopilot with full envelope protection.

According to Airbus, these technologies provide a highly advanced and reliable flying experience, making the ACH175 suitable for premium transport operations.

ACH160: Advanced and Ultra-Modern Helicopter

The ACH160 represents the latest in Airbus aviation technology and luxury transport design. Airbus describes it as engineered for exceptional performance, combining speed, agility, and reliability.

The helicopter features 68 new Airbus-patented innovations and is equipped with the Helionix avionics system to enhance control and flight safety. It has a maximum endurance of four hours and 30 minutes and a top cruise speed of 155 knots.

The ACH160 can carry up to 10 passengers and is positioned by Airbus as a next-generation helicopter for efficient and seamless transport.
