Frustrations as some Ghanaian commuters speak out on navigating daily amid transportation 'craze'

The daily commute in Ghana has increasingly become a challenging ordeal as commuters face a range of transportation issues.

Speaking to this situation, some commuters expressed their frustrations in interviews with GhanaWebTV on January 15, 2026, highlighting such things as overcrowded buses, rising fuel prices, and inadequate infrastructure.

For instance, a woman who commutes from Opebea to Accra for work stated that; "It's a daily struggle."

Another commenter told the news team that; "The trotros (minibuses) are always packed, and you're lucky if you can even catch one during peak hours. The traffic is terrible, and a journey that should take an hour can easily stretch to three."

Many others also shared similar sentiments, expressing concerns about the lack of reliable public transport and poor road conditions, which they say contributes to the overall chaos.

"I used to spend GH¢10 on transportation, but now it's GH¢20," lamented a man who prefers to remain anonymous.

"It's becoming difficult to afford the daily commute, and I have to sacrifice other necessities," added a female student.

Meanwhile, the government has stepped in to address these issues, a move that is expected to give commuters some relief from the protracted situation.
