GES says investigations have been initiated into the matter
Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has reacted to a video circulating on social media alleging poor food conditions at Savelugu Senior High School, assuring the public that the matter is being investigated.
In a press release dated January 16, 2026, GES stated that it takes the quality of student feeding very seriously and prioritises proper nutrition across all public schools.
The Service stressed that any form of mismanagement in the feeding programme is considered a serious offence, as it undermines government’s commitment to improving student welfare.
According to the statement, the feeding of students nationwide has generally seen significant improvement, following effective collaboration between the Ghana Buffer Stock Company and school heads.

GES, however, acknowledged the incident at Savelugu Senior High School but described it as an isolated case that does not reflect the overall feeding situation in schools across the country.
“Management wishes to assure the public, especially parents, that the incident at Savelugu Senior High School is an isolated case and does not reflect the overall feeding status nationwide. Investigations have been initiated into the matter,” the statement said.
Management confirmed that investigations have been initiated to establish the facts surrounding the matter.
“As part of our continued commitment to ensuring quality feeding for students, the GES Monitoring Team will intensify unannounced monitoring visits to schools,” the statement added.
The Service further urged all stakeholders, particularly school heads, to promptly report any peculiar challenges they encounter to management to allow for timely intervention.
