According to Professor Owusu, technical education is largely driven by hands-on learning
The Vice-Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University (KTU), Professor John Owusu, has emphasised the critical role of modern equipment in delivering effective competency-based training as part of efforts to position the university as a leading practical-oriented institution.
According to Professor Owusu, technical education is largely driven by hands-on learning, making the availability of appropriate and modern tools essential in preparing students for the world of work.
He noted that without adequate equipment, the goal of producing skilled and industry-ready graduates would be difficult to achieve.
In this regard, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Chancellor of the University, Paa Kwasi Yankeh, for his timely donation of equipment to support practical training in key departments of the institution.
The items donated include electric sewing machines, electric spray guns, and clutch parts, which will be utilized by the Engineering Department as well as the Fashion and Textiles Department.
Professor Owusu explained that the support would significantly enhance students’ practical skills and exposure, ensuring they are better equipped to meet industry standards upon completion of their programmes.
Presenting the equipment, the Chancellor, Paa Kwasi Yankeh, stated that his role extends beyond ceremonial responsibilities.
He stressed that supporting the university with the necessary resources for effective hands-on training is a key part of his commitment to the institution.
Yankeh added that equipping students with relevant practical skills is crucial to producing competent graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
