Chiefs in Bono propose establishment of Cashew Board to address price fluctuation

Some Chiefs in the Bono Region have called on the government to establish a cashew board to address price fluctuations affecting farmers and to restore confidence in the sector.

Speaking at various events during the “Thank You” tour of Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the chiefs emphasised that a dedicated board for the cashew industry would help tackle critical challenges hindering growth of the sector.

Nana Seidu Sule Zingo II, Chief of Namasa in the Tain constituency, called on government to institute a cashew board to regulate and stabilise pricing as well as ensure other benefits for cashew farmers.

He noted that the absence of a board to oversee proper regulation and address salient pricing issues had led to constant fluctuations, forcing farmers to incur repeated losses.

Nana Nketiah Bosopremre Kankamadu III, Chief of Miramano in the Jaman South constituency, stressed that unstable cashew prices were negatively impacting farmers.

He explained that since cashew was the main cash crop for farmers in the area, stabilising prices was essential for their livelihoods.

Nana Tutu Baffour II, Chief of Jinijini in the Berekum West constituency, highlighted the urgent need to address pricing challenges to drive the sector toward greater socio-economic gains.

Asiedu Nketiah assured the chiefs that plans were underway to stabilise cashew prices and ensure farmers receive fair value for their efforts.

He assured the people that their requests would be addressed, noting, that, the government was hopeful of completing the numerous promises within the four years, saying even in the face of challenges, the government remained committed to deliver results for Ghanaians.
