The suspect was arrested by a police intelligence led operation
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery incident that resulted in the death of a miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, was arrested on January 18, 2026, at Pomposo following an intelligence-led operation.
“The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery incident that resulted in the death of a miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
“The suspect, identified as Rahman Adams, also known as Wale, was arrested on 18th January 2026 at Pomposo through an intelligence-led operation,” portions of the police statement on January 21, 2026, read.
Providing details of the incident, the police stated that the arrest is connected to a residential robbery that took place on December 12, 2025, when armed assailants attacked a house at Asonkore.
The police reported that a 42-year-old miner was killed at his residence during the incident and was later discovered by officers who had been deployed to the scene following reports.

“The arrest follows a residential robbery that occurred on 12th December 2025, when armed assailants attacked a house at Asonkore. Police responded swiftly and found the body of a 42-year-old miner inside the house,” it stated.
The attackers are reported to have gained entry into the residence by cutting through a burglar-proof window before robbing the occupants of cash amounting to GH¢2,600, a laptop, and a vehicle ignition key.
The deceased was also reportedly assaulted during the attack, leading to his death.
The police further disclosed that “one suspect, identified as A.T., and a Nigerian national, both currently at large, are believed to have played key roles in the robbery and murder.”
The police added that a search conducted saw the retrieval of hammers, machetes, and cutters at the scene of the crime.
The deceased, the police say, has been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, with the suspect in custody.
