Air Tanzania to officially begin commercial operations at KIA

From January 28, 2026, passengers will be able to fly from Dar es Salaam to Lagos, then to Accra, and back to Dar es Salaam, as Air Tanzania is set to begin operating commercial flights at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The announcement was made by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

In a post on GACL’s Facebook page on January 22, 2026, the company stated that the airline is scheduled to commence operations on January 28, 2026, following the successful completion of all operational and regulatory arrangements.

It added that the airline will operate flights three times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Flights are expected to arrive in Accra at 5:00 PM and depart at 6:00 PM.

“Upon successful completion of all arrangements, Ghana Airports Company Limited is excited to welcome Air Tanzania to operate from Kotoka International Airport as the 26th international airline. We look forward to the seamless facilitation of our cherished passengers,” the statement said.

GCAA grants Air Tanzania operator certificate

In October 2025, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) granted a Validated Foreign Air Operator Certificate (VFAOC) to Air Tanzania, paving the way for the airline to commence operations between Dar es Salaam and Accra.

The Validated Foreign Air Operator Certificate (VFAOC) is an authorisation issued by the National Civil Aviation Authority to a foreign airline, permitting it to conduct commercial air transport within the country’s airspace.

The entry of Air Tanzania makes it the 26th international airline to serve Ghana’s aviation sector.
