Ghanaian media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has dismissed claims that GHOne TV journalist Lily Mohammed was coerced into apologising to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, after criticising him over the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to American streamer IShowSpeed.

Lily Mohammed had initially criticised Ablakwa for announcing that the government would grant a Ghanaian passport to IShowSpeed. She argued that the government must place greater value on the passport and avoid issuing it indiscriminately.

Responding to a social media post suggesting that Lily was forced to apologise, Nana Aba Anamoah clarified, “The journalist in question noticed some parts of her comments were unpalatable, unacceptable, and apologized. No one can force any independent-minded person to apologize. You people deɛ, everything is down to politicking.”

Lily Mohammed later issued an apology to the minister.

Meanwhile, her comments sparked an online clash between her and Louisa Laryea, wife of renowned journalist Israel Laryea.

In a cryptic Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb, Louisa Laryea criticised Lily Mohammed, arguing that she should have conducted thorough research, interrogated data, and demonstrated sound reasoning before attacking the minister.

“Journalism goes way beyond make-up, skin bleaching, BBL, hair, and fashion. Journalists ought to research, court the facts, interrogate data, and demonstrate sound reasoning,” Louisa wrote.

Lily Mohammed, displeased with Louisa’s remarks, fired back in a strongly worded response, “…That you are married to a journalist definitely does not make you one. The profession is not sexually transmitted.

“I would have very much been open to a discourse with you but seeing as you have absolutely no substance in that capacity, it would be a complete waste of my time. I hope you take a look at yourself in the mirror the next time you choose to be condescending, as you were with your distasteful post.”
