Kwasi Agyei is the Controller and Accountant General
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has suspended the salaries of 2,563 public servants who failed to take part in a nationwide headcount exercise conducted in 2025.
In a press release dated January 30, 2026, the CAGD confirmed that salaries for government employees on the national payroll had been paid for January but noted that payments to the affected personnel had been halted on the recommendation of the Auditor-General.
According to the statement, the suspended salaries pertain to workers who did not report for the headcount exercise conducted by the Ghana Audit Service across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
“The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department wishes to inform all Government of Ghana employees on the national payroll managed by the CAGD that salaries for January 2026 have been paid. However, on the recommendation of the Auditor-General, salaries of 2,563 personnel have been suspended for failing to present themselves during the nationwide headcount exercise,” the release said.
The Department urged all affected staff who did not receive their January salaries to contact the Ghana Audit Service without delay to undergo the necessary verification and clearance processes.
“It is essential that those affected ensure their employment status is verified to guarantee the reinstatement of their salaries,” the statement added.
The CAGD reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the timely payment of public-sector salaries, stressing that all actions taken were in line with established Public Financial Management laws.
