The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has injected a major financial boost into the healthcare system, releasing nearly GH¢400 million to service providers in a move aimed at easing pressure on facilities and ensuring uninterrupted care for patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
In a statement issued by its Finance Directorate, the NHIA announced that a total of GH¢392,031,851.26 was paid out between December 2025 and January 2026.
The payments cover claims submitted by healthcare providers in the previous year and thoroughly vetted by the NHIA before approval.
The bulk of the amount GH¢301,658,338.13 was disbursed in December 2025, while an additional GH¢90,373,513.13 was paid in January 2026, a statement from the authority has said.
Public and private health facilities received the largest share of the funds, accounting for about 80.55 per cent of the total disbursement.
Public facilities were reimbursed GH¢157,164,301.62, while private facilities received GH¢158,630,317.29.
Mission facilities, which play a crucial role in healthcare delivery particularly in underserved areas, received GH¢76,237,232.35, representing the remaining 19.45 per cent.
The NHIA stressed that the timely release of funds demonstrates its commitment to supporting healthcare providers and strengthening the delivery of quality services to millions of NHIS members nationwide.
"The payments reflect the Authority's resolve to promptly pay claims to enable healthcare providers to continue delivering quality services to NHIS members across the country," the statement concluded.
