The Madina-Adenta-Abokobi Secretariat of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has condemned the violent assault on teachers of West Africa Senior High School, describing the attack as a grave affront to the teaching profession and a threat to safety within educational institutions.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, February 13, 2026, began when some male students, reportedly from Frafraha Community Senior High School, were discovered in a classroom at West Africa SHS with female students, in breach of school regulations prohibiting unauthorised visitors on campus.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com dated February 16, 2026, a few teachers supervising students noticed the situation while most staff members were attending the school’s 80th anniversary launch.

The teachers confronted the intruders and ordered them to leave the premises.

Why some SHS students reportedly attacked a teacher on campus

The visitors allegedly resisted and verbally abused the teachers, resulting in a tense standoff.

With support from additional staff, the intruders were eventually driven off the campus.

“Teachers present managed to repel the attack after several minutes, forcing the assailants to flee,” the report said.

However, later that afternoon at about 4:30 pm, the group reportedly returned on motorbikes, this time accompanied by armed accomplices, and launched a violent attack on the teachers.

GNAT indicated that the assailants wielded sticks and clubs, targeting Nicholas Teye in particular and inflicting both physical injuries and psychological trauma.

Teachers on duty managed to repel the attackers after several minutes, forcing them to flee the scene.

The matter has been reported to the Adenta Police, who have issued medical forms to Teye for treatment and initiated investigations into the incident.

In response, GNAT has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, insisting that they must face the full rigours of the law to deter similar acts in the future.

The association also urged the Ghana Education Service to conduct its own inquiry and apply appropriate disciplinary sanctions against any students found culpable.

As part of its protest, GNAT directed teachers within the Madina-Adenta-Abokobi enclave to wear red armbands on Monday, February 16, 2026, in solidarity with their colleagues and in condemnation of violence against educators.

The association further appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders and community members to help educate the public on the consequences of attacking teachers, stressing that educators remain central to national development and must be safeguarded at all times.

GNAT warned that it remains on red alert and may consider further action should justice be delayed.
