Nana Obiri Boahen (L) has slammed Sam George (R) over his handling of the issue involving a Russian
A lawyer and former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has criticised Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, over his engagement with the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov.
The issue concerns the alleged unlawful publication of explicit videos of Ghanaian women by Russian national, Vladislav Luilkov.
According to Obiri Boahen, the minister, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has no official mandate to engage the ambassador directly, as such matters fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on February 21, 2026, Obiri Boahen stated that many ministers from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) only seek public relevance.
“I will look at it from a diplomatic perspective. Sam George said he has invited the Russian Ambassador, but that is not the right approach. Sometimes, I don’t understand him. In 2024, he even said the Peace Council is a useless entity.
“A matter of this nature is for the Foreign Affairs Ministry. You have to write to the ministry, and then copy the Russian Ambassador, so that the foreign minister can summon him. That is the NDC for you, everyone wants to be relevant,” he said.
Meanwhile, the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, has announced plans to extradite Russian national Vladislav Luilkov who has been accused of secretly filming Ghanaian women and publishing the videos online.
Officials explained that the move is part of efforts to protect citizens’ rights and ensure accountability for digital crimes.
Sam George emphasised that recording individuals without their consent is a crime under Ghanaian law.
“It is a crime to record a person without their consent. Even if you record and keep it on your phone, once the person finds out and reports it, we will prosecute you. Now, this gentleman not only recorded but also posted the videos online for financial gain. We will activate every resource at our disposal, working with Interpol, to have him extradited to Ghana to face prosecution,” he stated.
He further added, “I have invited the Russian Ambassador to work with our law enforcement. We want the gentleman extradited to Ghana to face the rigours of our law.”
