Why are we looking for comestic solutions whiles the real issue of illegal mining persisit? What's wrong with them? The one pushing this agenda needs to be investigated and changed for wasting tax payer's money. I'll not be surprised if the politicians also fall for it.

The problem of clearing Ghana's waterways is a complex scientific, socio-economic, and environmental challenge which cannot be handled by only one organization. The EPA is doing its bit, not by stopping the source, but trying to ensure that its effects don't get any worse. And besides, in the article it was mentioned that this was a trial experiment, a pilot, and the cleared water was sent back to the lab for testing. Meaning that they are not implementing it now, but are trying to see whether it would work in realistic situations. Actually implementing it, could take about a year or more, when the kinks in it have been straightened.
The work of the EPA must be in tandem with that of law enforcement, political, religious and traditional leaders, the farmers, the fishermen, the miners themselves, the mining companies—in short "obia ne obia".

It would be WONDERFUL to solve this galamsey wahala in one month—everyone wants that! But to hope for that is to ignore the issues of providing alternative livelihoods for the men and women who are unfortunately dependent on it, the extent of the pollution, the time taken for it to get this bad, the risks of causing secondary, as well as the general stubbornness of long established human-made and human-run systems to change. The most optimistic one can get, is for this to be solved in 10 years.

All I am saying is: let's be patient small before we pass judgement.

Cabinet should rather use $200 million to deploy security around our water bodies and make sure nobody pollute the river with galamsey activities. We should strengthen the law against galamsey so that no one goes close to the river to mine there. Those doing responsible miminng should crate tailings dams and apply this technology to recycle their waste water within the dam for continues mining but we should exempt out river's from mining. If we deploy this technology it will encourage more galamsey. The state should rather help those ready to engage in responsible miminng to crate dams for their waste and apply this technology to recycle the water and pump it back to their site.
