Rev Dr Ebenezer Markwei, Head Pastor of Living Streams International Church, has outlined five essential criteria Christians should use to assess prophetic ministries and protect themselves from false prophecies and misleading spiritual guidance.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s “Point of View” on February 25, 2026, Reverend Markwei introduced what he called the “Five Ms,” five pillars that believers must carefully consider when evaluating a prophetic ministry.

1. Money: The pastor advised Christians to pay close attention to how finances are handled in a prophet’s ministry.

He warned against ministries where every prophetic act or declaration is tied to monetary contributions.

“When spiritual direction consistently revolves around payments, offerings, or financial exchanges, it raises serious concerns about integrity and intent,” he noted.

2. Motive: Rev Markwei stressed the importance of understanding the purpose behind prophetic messages.

He explained that prophecy should never be used to manipulate people, seek personal recognition, or exploit the vulnerable.

“The underlying motive must be to edify and guide, not to control or impress,” he emphasised.

3. Message: He pointed out that the content of any genuine prophecy must align with Scripture and sound biblical teaching.

According to him, the message should point believers toward Christ rather than glorify the prophet. He added that authentic spiritual depth fosters humility, not arrogance.

4. Morals: Rev Markwei noted that character is just as important as gifting. A prophet’s personal life must reflect godly values, and any disconnect between public ministry and private conduct undermines credibility.

“The Bible says dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking smell. That means dead flies in the character of the person make the anointing stink in the nostrils of people because people cannot marry the charisma with the character,” he explained.

5. Methods: Finally, the man of God warned against practices that go beyond Scripture or put people at risk.

Any method used in ministry should be biblically grounded, and practices that endanger believers physically, emotionally, or spiritually are red flags that must not be tolerated.

Rev Markwei also urged Christians to develop a personal and direct relationship with Christ, emphasising that faith should not be dependent on any single spiritual leader.
