National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has stated that he has urged his supporters to remain calm as they head to the polls, to ensure voting proceeds peacefully.

During an interview with journalists on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after casting his ballot at the Alhaji Iddrisu House 2 polling station, Baba Jamal described the exercise so far as being smooth and orderly, despite what he admitted had been a tough political journey to get to this point.

“So far, I've been to several polling stations, the process has been very peaceful,” he said, noting that he had personally toured more than 25 polling centres across the constituency.

He acknowledged that the road from the party primaries to election day had not been easy, but said he was thankful to have reached this stage and was hopeful about the outcome.

Baba Jamal also praised the police for their conduct, saying security officers had handled the situation well and helped maintain calm at the various centres.

Although turnout appeared low in the early hours of voting, he linked it to the ongoing Ramadan fast, pointing out that Ayawaso East has a large Muslim population.

“I know it will pick up as the day goes by,” he said confidently.

The NDC candidate stressed that peace must remain the top priority.

“I've already advised all my supporters to stay calm and also be law-abiding. We want to see a peaceful process. We want to see a peaceful election,” he said.

Reflecting on his aspirations, Baba Jamal expressed faith in God and hope for the future.

“It is God that makes kings. My prayer is that if God is doing his king, God will remember me in his blessings. And let me have the opportunity to lead the people of East Ayawaso and to prove a point for my people,” he added.
