The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the rescheduling of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to a later date.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held on March 5, 2026, discussions on the readiness of the tournament revealed certain issues that needed to be addressed to ensure a successful competition.

Following this, CAF officials agreed to postpone the tournament, originally scheduled for March 17 to April 3, 2026, to July 25 to August 16, 2026.

The decision aims to ensure proper preparations by the host country, CAF, and participating teams, guaranteeing a competitive tournament that will showcase the best of women’s football on the continent.

This announcement comes after strong criticisms from officials of women’s national teams across Africa, who had earlier expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding the fate of the competition.

Meanwhile, the Black Queens are preparing for the tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where they are participating in the Pink Ladies Cup.

The Queens thrashed Hong Kong 4-0 and repeated the scoreline against Russia, as they look forward to clinching the trophy.

The team will aim to maintain top form heading into the WAFCON, with hopes of winning the title after finishing third in the previous edition.
