Authorities from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have reportedly intercepted more than 300 drums of suspected stolen ECG cables at Kpone in Accra.

The seizure followed a special operation by police officers who raided a facility within the Sentuo Resources enclave in the Kpone Industrial Area, where the brand-new cables were discovered.

The cables were reportedly cut into pieces and melted down, with fragments and remoulded materials allegedly being prepared for export to China as part of a suspected power cable diversion and recycling scheme currently under investigation.

A video shared on X on March 6, 2026, shows a large room resembling a warehouse, with the cables lined up on the floor alongside big round wooden containers bearing ECG inscriptions and serial numbers.

This interception is the latest to be done by the police.

Recently, Police in the Oti Region retrieved a large quantity of suspected cannabis valued at more than GH¢1.4 million from a truck that was intercepted in December 2025.

According to the police, the Volvo truck was stopped at the Bonakye checkpoint while heading towards Passa.

In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor of the Public Affairs Unit in the Oti Region, the police said the driver and one other occupant fled the scene after the vehicle was stopped.

They then abandoned the truck with the ignition key still in it, the statement added. The police said when the truck was opened following a court order, officers found 320 cartons of bottled mineral water.

However, concealed beneath the cartons were 91 bales of suspected cannabis.

"The truck was opened at Nkwanta, in the presence of representatives from the Police, Military, NIB, Defence Intelligence, Ghana National Fire Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (Jasikan), and members of the media.

"Officers discovered three hundred and twenty (320) cartons of bottled mineral water, concealing ninety-one (91) bales of suspected cannabis, totalling seven thousand, one hundred and seventy-three (7,173) slabs, with an estimated street value of the seized substances exceeding GH¢ 1.4 million," the statement said.
