Ghanaian UN base in Lebanon under attack
More videos have surfaced on social media from southern Lebanon showing the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters, operating under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), engulfed in flames after being struck by two missiles during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
The circulating footage shows thick smoke and fire consuming sections of the base following the attacks.
Some officers in the battalion are seen attempting to extinguish the fire as it spreads to other parts of the facility.
According to reports, the base was targeted twice by missiles during the exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters in the area.
Meanwhile, the government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has condemned the attack, calling for a full, immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which left two Ghanaian soldiers seriously injured.

In a statement issued on March 7, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the government had written to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, demanding a full investigation into the incident involving Ghanaian troops deployed under UNIFIL.
Ghana has been a long-standing contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, with troops currently serving in several missions worldwide, including the UNIFIL deployment in southern Lebanon.
