Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has signalled that the government would consider sending Sandra Baafi Boateng, a young woman left bedridden after a tragic stampede during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise in November 2025, overseas to access advanced treatment if recommended by her doctors.

He noted that his outfit is doing everything possible to get the best care available to help Baafi Boateng recover fully.

Baafi Boateng was among many who were critically injured after chaos erupted at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on November 12, 2025.

Massive turnout of youths to register as GAF applicants at the stadium turned deadly, as a stampede left her with severe injuries that have kept her hospitalised, immobile, and unable to speak for months.

“I wish to assure this Honourable House that the Ministry of Health has remained actively engaged with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that Sandra Baafi Boateng receives the requisite specialist care and that every necessary step is being taken to expedite her treatment and recovery,” he said.

From the start, the government stepped in to cover all her medical bills, sparing her family the heavy financial burden.

She first received intensive inpatient care and specialist oversight at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

On February 26, 2026, following medical advice, she was airlifted by the Ghana Armed Forces to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

A dedicated team of specialists from different fields has been assigned to provide round-the-clock treatment, including rehabilitation and emotional support, to aid her healing.

Akandoh emphasised that no option is off the table.

“The Ministry is closely monitoring her progress and is fully prepared to arrange specialised treatment abroad if doctors recommend it as the next step to give her the strongest chance at recovery,” he said.

For Sandra’s loved ones who have watched her fight quietly in hospital beds for over four months and for many Ghanaians touched by her story, today’s update brings a measure of hope amid ongoing prayers for her healing.

The government’s promise underscores a commitment not just to medical care, but support for those caught in tragedy in pursuit of a better future.
