Axim (Western Region) 24, Sept. A benevolent society, known as ''Friends of Axim'', has been formed in Grafelfing, Germany, to help foster cultural partnership between the peoples of Grafelfing and Axim. Addressing the second general meeting of the fourth session of the Nzema East district assembly yesterday, Ms Heike Breiderich, a representative of the society who is on her first visit to Ghana, said the society has already set up two committees on culture and scholarship to integrate Ghanaian and German cultures and The committee will also canvass sponsorship for brilliant but deprived JSS and SSS students from both the Nzema East and Jomoro districts. She said since the scholarship scheme was initiated in 1996 about 30 out of 98 students who applied have benefited. She said the idea for a cultural linkage between Axim and Grafelfing, was initiated jointly by Dr Augustus Addae-Mensah, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Mr Florian Wolfard, the German proprietor and manager of the Ankobra Beach Resort. While in Ghana, Ms Breiderich will acquaint herself with Ghanaian traditions and cultural practices to be able to educate her colleagues in Grafelfing.
