The mother of one of the suspects arrested in connection with the lynching of 26-year-old Liberian national, Austin Tengbeh, near Lashibi has denied that her son participated in the killing.
Speaking in an interview with EDHUB on Monday, March 16, 2026, she insisted that the only time her son touched the victim was when he tried to help move him away from the road.
According to her, Tengbeh was lying on the ground and struggling to get up when an Uber vehicle arrived at an apartment nearby to pick up a passenger.
She explained that her son was asked to help move Tengbeh out of the way of the vehicle.
“The only time my son touched Austin was when he was helping to move him from the road. He couldn’t get up,” she said.
She further stated that she woke her son up and sent him to the scene, adding that he had initially refused to go.
“I won’t support any evil done by my son. If he kills somebody, he must face the law. But in this case, I know the God I serve, he did not beat Austin.
“He is my only son. He could have been the one they killed. What would I do? The truth will surely come out,” she said.
Meanwhile, the police, has identified a fifth suspect in connection with the killing of Tengbeh.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, disclosed this during a recent press briefing at the CID Headquarters in Accra.
