Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Freddie Blay is currently in police custody following his arrest on Monday, over a land dispute.

Well, the former NPP National Chairman is no stranger to land disputes or fights over properties. Over the past few years, Freddie Blay has made news after either he and/or his family get involved in disputes or legal battles over land or property.

Here are four instances in which Blay has gotten entangled in battles over lands or properties:

Kitase demolition dispute

The latest land dispute that has landed Blay in trouble is the alleged destruction of property in Kitase in the Eastern Region.

On Monday, March 16, 2026, he was arrested by police officers in Accra and handed over to the Akropong Police after the Circuit Court issued a warrant for his arrest over the alleged demolition dispute at Kitase.

The arrest stems from a complaint filed on February 1, 2025, by a landowner at Kitase in the Akuapem area. Police sources say the complainant discovered the damage during a visit to his land on January 31, 2025, where he found that structures under construction on the property had been destroyed.

Reports indicated that investigators who later visited the site arrested five individuals who were allegedly clearing the land using a backhoe. During interrogation, one of the suspects reportedly mentioned Freddie Blay and another individual, Nana Osae Ntifo I, also known as Dada, as the persons who allegedly directed them to carry out the destruction.

Freddie Blay remanded

Nana Osae Ntifo I was subsequently arrested near the police station shortly afterwards, while Freddie Blay was later invited by the police to assist with investigations, but reportedly failed to honour the invitation despite indicating he would report. On April 24, 2025, Blay, together with Nana Osae Ntifo I and other suspects, was expected to appear before the Akropong Circuit Court.

However, the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to show up. Reports indicated that all attempts by investigators to arrest him at his East Legon residence were unsuccessful. Police also reportedly sent multiple messages to him through various channels in May 2025, but he allegedly neither responded nor reported.

Labadi beachfront battle:

The now Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in 2024 accused Freddie Blay and his son, Kwame Blay, of engaging in “grand state capture by claiming ownership of the beachfront of the Labadi Beach Hotel.”

In a post shared on X on Thursday, June 27, 2024, Ablakwa shared supposed documents of an agreement between a company he linked to the Blays, the Labadi Beach Hotel, and a third party on the joint venture that covers the hotel beachfront in contention.

He questioned why the Labadi Beach Hotel was included in the joint venture if the beachfront did not belong to the hotel. He asserted that the joint venture was breached, leading to the hotel losing a significant amount of money.

The Blays have denied the allegations of the MP and have even taken legal action against him.

Kwame Blay refuted Ablakwa's accusations of land theft and fraud involving Loic Devos Jnr, asserting that these baseless claims have caused significant damage to both his business ventures and personal reputation.

Freddie Blay contends that Ablakwa's allegations are driven by malice, especially considering the timing close to the elections, aiming to undermine his reputation.

The ex-NPP chair and his son sued Ablakwa over the allegation. The case is still pending in court.

The Labadi Beach Hotel also filed for an injunction in court to prevent the Blays from using the land.

Borteyman land dispute

Kwame Blay in 2024, was also accused of seizing 29 acres of their 328-acre land in Borteyman, Nungua, by Sino Africa, a subsidiary of Jospong Group.

According to a report by gbcghanaonline.com, Kwame Blay was accused of claiming 29 acres belonging to Sino Africa through Royal Bell Investments Limited and Terraform Development Limited, companies believed to be owned by him.

The company also alleged Freddie Blay of using his influence as a member of the ruling NPP government to back his son’s actions. They claim that the son of the former NPP National Chairman was using police officers to protect his illegal activities on the land.

The company accused Kwame Blay of working on the land despite a court order supposedly banning all parties from working on the said land.

Accra land grabbing claims:

In October 2023, a group of Ga chiefs, donned in traditional red attire, stormed the residence of former NPP Chairman Freddie Blay at East Legon.

Their mission was to render an unqualified apology for the false accusations that had been levelled against both Blay and the former Greater Accra Youth Organiser, Moses Abor.

The visiting chiefs included Nii Djanie Tsuru Afuty Brempong IV, the Chief of Damfa, Nii Ashirifi Ashong I, Manklalo of Amrahia, Nii Sango Amarh I, representing Teshie Akwashong-tse, and Nii Ashong Kojo IV, Chief of Amrahia.

During the visit, the chiefs emphasised that they understood the gravity of the accusations and the distress it may have caused Freddie Blay, Moses Abor, and Ben Seyram.

They underlined their belief in the importance of due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

In a formal statement, the chiefs conveyed their apologies to the individuals affected by these allegations.
