Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi is a former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom
A former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a substantive defense minister and relieve Cassiel Ato Forson of his additional responsibility as Acting Minister of Defense, warning that combining the two roles could weaken national security coordination.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Adomako argued that the defence portfolio is too important to be managed alongside an already demanding Finance Ministry.
He noted that the current arrangement puts a strain on Ato Forson, which may affect the performance of both sectors.
“I will plead with you, Mr President, that it has been a bit too long. Administratively, it is not helping the country. Ato Forson is already burdened with stabilising the economy, and that load is troubling,” he said.

“Please relieve him of this double role so we can fully appreciate that defence is pivotal to our economic growth,” he added.
He also warned that investor confidence is closely linked to the country’s security environment, adding that any perceived gaps in defence leadership could deter investment and slow down economic recovery efforts.
His remarks follow a tragic helicopter crash in Tema on Monday, March 16, 2026, which claimed two lives.
The aircraft, which was travelling from Ho in the Volta Region to Accra, reportedly crashed at Oninku Drive School Park in Tema Community 1, close to the city’s central business district.
