Marvin Senaya plays for AJ Auxerre
Togo head coach Patrice Neveu says France-born defender Marvin Senaya has given a positive response to represent his side, as the battle with Ghana over the player’s international future intensifies.
The AJ Auxerre right-back has been caught in a dual call-up situation after being named in both Togo’s squad and Ghana’s squad for the March international window.
Neveu revealed he has already held talks with the 25-year-old and is confident of the player’s stance, although he stopped short of confirming the matter as settled.
“Senaya was contacted, and I received his response. It was positive regarding Togo,” Neveu said.
However, the French coach indicated that the final outcome will depend on whether the defender reports to camp.
“If he’s not there for the training camp, we’ll conclude. He gave his agreement, and an agreement is verbal. I don’t want to get into any arguments. I’m waiting.”
The situation escalated after Ghana coach Otto Addo included Senaya in his 26-man squad for friendlies against Austria and Germany, despite the player’s earlier involvement with Togo’s plans for matches against Guinea and Niger.
Senaya, who plays in France with Auxerre, is regarded as a modern full-back known for his pace, defensive awareness and ability to contribute in attack.
He has made 20 Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring one goal.
