Teacher licensure exams to end by August 30 – NDC’s Manuribe clarifies

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Richard Manuribe, has clarified that teacher licensure examinations in Ghana will cease to exist from August 30, 2026, as part of an ongoing policy transition.

Speaking on GHOne TV Breakfast Show on March 19, 2026, Manuribe explained that the cancellation of the exams is not immediate but follows a structured administrative process.

According to him, the government has already put measures in place to ensure a smooth phase-out of the licensure regime.

He noted that all pending resit examinations and related processes will be conducted and completed before the end of August 2026.

“From now till August, all resits under the licensure examination are expected to be conducted, and we will phase it out completely,” he said, stressing that the move reflects an official government policy.

Manuribe further urged the public to understand that such policy changes take time to implement, drawing a comparison with the repeal of the controversial E-Levy.

“We read the budget in November. When the E-Levy was abolished, it didn’t take effect immediately. These are administrative processes. If a law has been passed by Parliament, the repeal must also go through due process,” he explained.

He emphasised that the government is actively working behind the scenes to complete the transition and should not be perceived as delaying the process.

Manuribe assured that by the end of August 30, 2026, all outstanding matters relating to the teacher licensure examinations would have been resolved, paving the way for a new system.
