Businessman and entrepreneur, Jerry Osei Amoah, affectionately known as Nana Kobo, has expressed his resolve to help tackle housing challenges in Accra.
The housing deficit in Accra remains a pressing issue, driven by rapid urbanisation, high population growth, and income disparities.
Over the years, the government has made efforts to address the situation, but these have yielded limited results, largely due to affordability constraints.
Against this backdrop, the Managing Director of Nako Properties, Jerry Osei Amoah, has pledged to support the construction of between 50 and 100 single-unit and family-sized affordable homes to help ease accommodation challenges in Accra.
He made this pledge during an interaction with a section of the media in Accra.
According to Osei Amoah, many teachers, nurses, and even young doctors struggle to find accommodation after completing their training or being posted to work in the capital.
“I have been thinking and dreaming about how to solve this issue, and I am happy that God has made it possible for this opportunity to come through,” he said.
He noted that the initiative will enable nurses, doctors, teachers, and even self-employed Ghanaians to access decent accommodation despite their modest incomes.
He added that although Nako Properties is known for building luxury homes for a particular class of clients, it is important for private businesses to partner with the government to address societal challenges.
“Government alone cannot solve all the issues,” he stated.
In line with this, he revealed that the necessary measures have been put in place to deliver affordable housing solutions aimed at easing Accra’s accommodation problems.
He concluded by expressing optimism that with innovative construction methods, flexible rent schemes, and strategic partnerships, there is renewed hope for Ghana’s housing sector.
