The Ghana Police Service has clarified a viral video that captured a child being abused.

According to the Service, the incident did not occur in Ghana but in Nigeria.

A news report by adomonline.com on March 24, 2026, stated that the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) conducted investigations after the footage circulated widely on social media.

Following the investigation, it was confirmed that the incident took place in Nigeria.

“After thorough investigations by the CVET, the Police wish to state that the incident occurred in Nigeria,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police Force has arrested the suspect, who is expected to face court.

The child and his mother have also been taken to a police medical facility in Otta for medical care and evaluation.

The Ghana Police Service commended the public for its vigilance and pledged continued collaboration with citizens and international partners to combat crime.

Background

In the said video, a man, identified as Odukaye Kunle, was captured assaulting his young son, Boluwatife, during a domestic dispute at 16 Popoola Street, Oko Baale in Ado Odo Otta, Ogun State.

The child, in the same video, was seen approaching his father for a hug before being struck to the ground.

The video, however, triggered anger online, with many users tagging the Ghana Police Service and CVET, prompting authorities to verify the location and circumstances leading to the abuse.
