Kofi Tonto, a political aide and deputy spokesperson to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has chastised Solomon Owusu, Director of Communications for the United Party, (UP) for defending the government regarding sole sourcing of roads projects under Big Push.

In an interview with Accra-based TV3, on March 25, 2026, Tonto expressed surprise at Owusu’s stance, noting that he had previously criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for engaging in sole-sourcing.

He, however, questioned why Owusu would make a u-turn to defend the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), which had also condemned the practice in the past but is now repeating same.

"You Solo, you belong to a political party, which political party went to Ghanaians to seek power and got 33,000 votes? The point I am making is that when you went to Ghanaians, you went on the back of the argument that the Akufo-Addo government was not the best, the alternative National Democratic Congress government was also not the best and that you were the best to lead the country.

"...Then NDC wins and comes to power and the very ills you criticised NPP for, NDC is doing same and worse, and instead of condemning it, you are sitting here with your kaftan telling me that we shouldn’t talk," he fumed.

He went on to caution the former NPP member to desist from engaging in politicking.

He further urged him to allow the ruling government to pursue its “reset” agenda, rather than constantly defending and citing examples to justify actions that he himself has previously condemned.

"My point is, you cannot continue to do politics and campaign. Campaign is over. You cannot continue to defend the NDC and cite examples on their behalf. They promised a reset and said everything we did was bad, so I don’t need to reiterate the so-called bad things. So don’t cite all of those things as your basis to argue," he told Solomon Owusu.
