Also it is disrespectful to continue to call the Woman an Auntie when she has told you to stop. Just stop calling her by that.
I have been a Teacher at Uncle Sam’s country for more than three decades. My students call me Professor Frank Karikari. Other Members of the Teaching Staff simply call me Frank and the Non Teaching Staff members call me Professor.
There was an occasion when a student called me Frank in the presence of the Principal and some Teaching Staff members. I was not offended but the Principal was. He immediately reprimanded the student and corrected him to call me Professor. The student immediately apologized and corrected himself. But in my neighborhood, even most students at the Primary School Level easily call me Frank, though a few call me Mr Frank and I have no problem with that. That is what is done here.
When we go to a Ghanaian Community function, my Children address elderly Ghanaians as Uncle, Auntie, Grandmother etc but call other Americans with their first names and they don’t get offended.
The Gentleman was wrong in continuing to call the lady as an Auntie even after she had told him to refrain from calling her Auntie. The situation is unfortunate because the young man from Ghana might have been used to using such titles to address people, especially when such people are older than you. The Gentleman has surely learned his lesson. The fine was expensive. The Judge was applying the rules but I think he knows the Ghanaian situation and could have just reprimanded him. The Gentleman will not do that again.

It's nauseating, very annoying, especially uncomfortable when you're expected to use the word "Mepawtsaw" to everyone in every corner of Ghana without which you're seen as a disrespectful person.

Most Ghanaians have come to cherish and accepted to be addressed "mepawtsaw" in their daily interaction with others as if everyone live in their homes and get fed.

The "mepawtsaw" attitude is unfortunately what the guy took along to London to end up calling her female colleague auntie when he should have called her by her name. Let's leave that useless funful respect to black Africans who wantnto be worshipped by all means, whites don't need that to live the live they're created to live.

Again, you can export our everyday lies abroad, you'll be punished for that. There are lies that take for granted in Ghana which can easily be detected abroad.They are not fond of titles as is the case in Ghana. Everyone is called by their first names including doctors. No 'Mr Moses' or 'Mr John'. In Ghana we can hear 'sister sister' or 'auntie Nana'. This is something our embassy in UK can explain to the host country.

The irony is that even the white british youth are actually taking on this idea of calling older people aunt and uncle.

This is something we are conditioned to do and it is hard to let go of.

I guess this has a parallel with the lumba case a clash of cultures !
