This is not strange. During our days at CASFORD which was the only students Hall at that end, we had to deal with very huge snakes in the area.
There were dense shrubs where huge snakes, Squirrels, Monitor Lizards could be easily found. We had the University Bus that took us to and from CASFORD to the Old Site every hour. We occasionally killed very big snakes there and even once killed an Alligator. Once a student who had gone outside was bitten by a snake and almost died. Coming from the Old to the New Site or Vice versa, there were Street Lights but it was advisable to walk in the middle of the road to avoid being bitten by a snake.
The area around CASFORD was not housed and habits so snakes were very common. I don’t that this is strange especially when the area before one gets to CASFORD from APEWOSIKA was very marshy. Huge snakes there was common, and especially getting to the Lecturers Village. I know that as we live in a society that believes in Superstition, this occurrence will be attributed to Spiritual entities, especially Witchcraft.

I remember when we were students at Casford, there was a time some students killed a very huge africa rock python together with about 40 baby snakes which it had hatched. At the time the current Valco hall was under construction. That whole area is a snake habitat together with that secondary forest just opposite the Valco hall which has been preserved for research purposes. The problem is the habitat of these creatures has almost been taken over by human activity. I am sure that snake was an african rock python. It should have been sent back to the forest nearby but because of superstition it has been killed. Anyway some tribes in ghana eat python meat and its oil can be used to treat muscle sprains and fractures.

Also, between 7:30 to 12:00 Noon, most students leave for the Old Site and the Science Lecture Theatres and CASFORD becomes like a Cemetery with the entrance Gates opened and unlocked so even an Elephant could enter into the Hall of Residence. Please, let us reason reasonably and exempt superstitious explanations.
