Some parts of Accra experienced flooding on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after heavy rains left major roads and homes submerged, disrupting movement across the city.
The affected areas include Circle, Weija, Kasoa Old Barrier, Dansoman, Mallam Junction, Kaneshie, Accra Central, the Dansoman Junction, parts of the Adenta enclave, and other parts of the Greater Accra Region.
Videos circulating online showed residents and commuters struggling as sections of roads were covered in water, making movement difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians.
In some cases, homes were also inundated, with floodwaters entering rooms.
In several locations, traffic congestion worsened as drivers attempted to navigate through the flooded streets.
Chorkor residents lament poor sanitation, clogged gutters
The situation is believed to have been caused by intense rainfall that began in the early hours of March 29, 2026, overwhelming drainage systems in parts of the capital and nearby communities.
No casualties have been officially confirmed, although residents have raised concerns about the persistent nature of flooding in these areas, especially during heavy rains.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the full extent of the damage, while affected residents continue to assess the impact on their homes, businesses, and daily activities.
