Gender Ministry condemns Cape Coast assault video, refers case to Police

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has condemned a disturbing video circulating on social media that shows a man violently assaulting a woman in Cape Coast and reportedly inflicting further physical harm on her.

In a statement issued on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Ministry described the act as “cruel and unacceptable,” stressing that violence in any form against any person is punishable under Ghanaian law.

Such actions constitute serious offences under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The Ministry said it has attempted to reach the victim after obtaining a phone number believed to be hers but has so far been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has officially referred the case to the Ghana Police Service for prompt investigation and appropriate action.

MoGCSP reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening interventions and working with relevant stakeholders to prevent all forms of violence, promote a safe and inclusive society, and ensure that no one is left behind.

“MoGCSP will continue to strengthen its interventions and collaborations with key stakeholders to prevent all forms of violence and promote a safe and inclusive society, ensuring that no one is left behind,” the statement read.
