Private legal practitioner and member of the “Operation Recover All Loot” initiative, Martin Kpebu, has responded to comments made by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng regarding political resistance to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

At a National Dialogue on the OSP, on March 31, 2026, Agyebeng stated that Ghana’s political class remain uncomfortable with the existence of the office, describing its challenges as “existential battles” driven by political opposition.

He emphasised that despite these obstacles, the OSP is committed to fighting corruption and promoting accountability in public governance.

Reacting to these remarks on Channel One’s Newsroom on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, Kpebu argued that the Special Prosecutor should take responsibility for the difficulties facing the office.

He claimed that Agyebeng is not fit for the role and cautioned that he should have stepped down long ago.

“It is hogwash, absolute hogwash. It is the Special Prosecutor who has brought this upon himself. He should have left the office a long time ago. Kissi is not fit for that office. If Kissi Agyebeng had any modicum of dignity, he would have resigned a long time ago. He should stop deceiving Ghanaians. You can’t let Ofori-Atta escape and still stay in that office,” he said.

He further argued that the OSP was attempting to divert attention from its own shortcomings.

Citing the case of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta, he claimed that despite several cases pending against him, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng allowed him to leave the country and misled the public about efforts to arrest the former minister.

“It is a way of diverting attention from his own shortcomings. Ofori-Atta has five cases hanging on his neck, and Kissi could allow him to go out of this country, but he came to lie to us through his teeth that he was attempting to arrest Ofori-Atta, but he didn’t get help from National Security,” he stated.

“National Security wrote to debunk that, then he said BNI, but they came to debunk that. Meanwhile, he didn’t make any effort to arrest Ofori-Atta,” he added.
